Steve worked in the ATO for more than 30 years, as a director undertaking a number of technical and managerial roles. Throughout his career, he provided tax technical advice to individuals through the Advising regime and managed in areas handling objections and disputes before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT).
In the ATO, Steve has dealt with taxpayers including individuals and representatives from large companies explaining the Commissioner’s view on various tax issues, and on occasion negotiating suitable outcomes.
He also provided legal advice for the Australian Government Solicitor (AGS) when necessary.
Steve has had a diverse range of experience in the Large Business and International area, providing advice to companies planning complex transactions, and drafting and authorising ATO rulings under the binding rulings provisions, particularly in respect of the Taxation of Financial Arrangements (TOFA) legislation and Jurisdictional Asymmetric Funding Transactions (JAFT).
Stuart (BA LLB MBA LLM MTax FAICD) has worked as a senior solicitor, in the ATO, Australian Government Solicitors (AGS) and Australian Security and Investment Commissions (ASIC) for more than 23 years. He is highly experienced in investigation and directing contentious issues to a resolution, writing policy and ruling advice on income tax as well as commercial and governance issues.
His expertise spans the commercial law, income tax law, estate planning, construction law, property law, customs and excise law, planning and local government law.
In the ATO, Stuart specialised in drafting ATO Rulings, liaison with taxpayers and their representatives, conducting meetings to resolve taxpayer issues, drafting precedents and reviewing proposed Bills.
In the private sector, Stuart has acted as a non-executive director and chairman.
He has been a non-executive director of a not- for- profit company with over 13,000 employees and a market capitalization of over $3B for twelve years; served as an Independent Chairman of a start-up risk and audit committee for the Institute of Public Works Engineering and has been on the board of a Retirement House where he successfully commenced and completed a $17M refurbishment and a constitutional rewrite. He has been active in advocacy and lobbying and often prepares submissions.
Matthieu has completed a Master of International Business degree specialising in finance where he has received an Award of Academic Excellence. He is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
He has been working in financial services for over 7 years, including working at BNP Paribas Personal Investors as a financial adviser, and at Perpetual Private where he looked after High-Net-Worth individuals (HWIs) and Not-For Profits (NFPs) organisations.
Matthieu has presented a range of financial planning topics, including investments, debt management, Superannuation and Estate Planning at CPA Australia. He is driven by educating people about their finances and how to make wiser financial decisions.
Being French, he has also organised events to educate French expats about the differences between the two countries covering retirement planning, investments and taxation. Matthieu is currently studying data science and is advising business clients of Clarity Tax Consulting by conducting budgeting and forecasting modeling to help them grow their enterprises.

Responsibilities for the positions:
· Preparation of management reports, financial statements, tax returns and BASs for individuals, partnerships, companies and trusts;
· Preparation of FBT returns;
· Liaise with various statutory authorities (including Revenue NSW, ATO and ASIC) on behalf of clients ;
· Work with the clients to ensure client work is completed within the timeframe allocated;
· Preparation of correspondence to clients and other bodies as required;

· CA/CPA partly-completed or willing to commence;
